Election Information

The Town of Kinistino is governed by 6 elected council members and 1 mayor. Those elected serve a 4 year term, and have the opportunity to run for election for an unlimited number of terms.

The municipal election is open to anyone who owns property, or resides with the Town of Kinistino that is the age of majority. The next general election will take place in 2024.

Qualifications of Candidate

You are qualified to run for an Urban Municipal Election if:

  • on the day of election are 18 years of age;
  • at the time of submission of the nomination paper, is a Canadian Citizen; and
  • have resided in the municipality for at least three months and in Saskatchewan for at least six months.

How to Become a Candidate

  1. Get the Nomination Form
  2. Fill out the Form: Complete all required fields and gather the necessary signatures.
  3. Submit the Form: You may submit your completed nomination form by email or in person by 4:00 pm on October 9, 2024.

Along with your nomination form you must submit a public disclosure statement.

Read all instructions. Make sure you understand all the information and requirements before submitting your documents.

Once submitted, nomination forms and public disclosure statements will be available for the public to review.

Candidates have 24 hours to withdraw their nomination after the close of Nomination Day.

Information for Voters

Who can vote?

To be eligible to vote, you must:

  • be a Canadian Citizen;
  • be at least 18 years of age and one of the following:
  • have lived in Saskatchewan for at least six consecutive months immediately before election day and:
  •     lived in the municipality (or on land now in the municipality) for at least three consecutive months immediately before election day; or
  •     be the owner of accessible land situation in the municipality (or land now situated in the municipality) for at least three consecutive months immediately before election day.
What do I need to vote?
On election day, you will be required to provide proof of identify to vote.  The best option is to provide government issued, valid photo ID that contains your name and address. Examples include:
  • valid Saskatchewan driver's license;
  • valid Saskatchewan ID card issued by SGI or any motor license issuer; or
  • any other valid government-issued photo ID issued by a Canadian government whether federal, provincial or municipal, or an agency of that government, so long as it includes your name and address.
If you do not have a valid photo ID, there are other options available to you as detailed on the Government of Saskatchewan Voting website, or you can acquire non-drivers photo ID from SGI.
